All the Stars and Teeth is the firs book in duology “All the Stars and Teeths. The secondo and final book All the Tides of Fate, out February 2, 2021. Written by Adalyn Grace, published by Imprint.
“She will reign. As princess of the island kingdom Visidia, Amora Montara has spent her entire life training to be High Animancer—the master of souls. The rest of the realm can choose their magic, but for Amora, it’s never been a choice. To secure her place as heir to the throne, she must prove her mastery of the monarchy’s dangerous soul magic. When her demonstration goes awry, Amora is forced to flee. She strikes a deal with Bastian, a mysterious pirate: he’ll help her prove she’s fit to rule, if she’ll help him reclaim his stolen magic. But sailing the kingdom holds more wonder—and more peril—than Amora anticipated. A destructive new magic is on the rise, and if Amora is to conquer it, she’ll need to face legendary monsters, cross paths with vengeful mermaids, and deal with a stowaway she never expected… or risk the fate of Visidia and lose the crown forever.”
“I am Amora Montara, Princess of Visidia, and I will be the future High Animancer. I am the right choice. The only choice. And I will protect my kingdom.”
When I first saw the cover of this novel and read it’s blurb I was very excited. The hype for this book grew and I started to worry if it would live up to my expectations. There were so many aspects of All the Stars and Teeth that I had such high hopes for and in many ways I was pleased with how this one turned out, but there were also some aspects that fell very short of my expectations, I had hoped that this could be a 5 star read, but as the book went on I found it easier and easier to set it down. Worldbuilding? Mermaid? Magic?
Overall I’m disappointed. I think I will check out the next book that Adalyn Grace comes out with, because her writing really has potential, but this book fell short of what it could have been. I enjoyed a lot of this book, but I also dragged myself through about half of it. I really wanted to love this book, but All the Stars and Teeth was a big disappointment for me.
